West I.S.D. GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM Notice of Student Nomination West I.S.D. Gifted and Talented Program will begin accepting nominations for the GT program beginning August 17, 2009. District students currently in grades K-12 are eligible for program services by qualifying for the program through state guidelines and local policy. Nominations are accepted from teachers, school personnel, parents/guardians and community members. Teachers and school personnel interested in nominating a student are asked to obtain a Professional Nomination form from a campus counselor or principal. The Professional Nomination form is to be returned to the Counselor. Parents/guardians and community members interested in nominating a student should contact the student's campus to obtain a Parent/Adult Nomination form. The form is to be returned to the child's campus and must be received by October 8, 2009. Nominations received after the deadline date will be considered the following school year. ESC Region 12 and the Rio Brazos Educational Cooperative offer child find information, referral services, and public awareness to parents and community members at no cost. Reagan Street West, Texas 76691 Phone (254) 826-7500 Fax (254) 826-7503 Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Education Agencies (LEA) provides supplemental funding to state and LEAs for resources to help schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families provide a high-quality education that will enable all children to meet the state's student performance standards. Title I, Part A supports schools in implementing either a school-wide program or a targeted assistance program. These programs must use effective methods and instructional strategies that are grounded in scientifically based research. Title I, Part D, Subparts 1 and 2 Prevention and Intervention Programs for Children and Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent, or At Risk provides supplemental funding to state and LEAs to improve the educational service to children in facilities for the neglected or delinquent so that these students will have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills contained in the state content standards in order to meet the same student performance standards that all children in the state are expected to meet. Title I, Part D has a primary focus of facilitating the transition and academic needs of students from correctional programs to further education or employment. The division administers the two formula programs. Title II, Part A - Teacher and Principal Training and Recruiting Fund provides supplemental funding to improve student achievement by elevating teacher and principal quality through recruitment, hiring, and retention strategies to improve teacher and principal quality and increase the number of highly qualified teachers in the classroom and highly qualified principals and assistant principals in schools. The program uses scientifically based professional development interventions and holds districts and schools accountable for improvements in student academic performance. Public Notification of Nondiscrimination in Career and Technology Education Programs West Independent School District offers career and technology education programs in Business Education, Family and Consumer Education and Industrial Technology Education. Admission to these programs is based on interest and aptitude, age appropriateness, and class availability.
